“I became the chairwoman for the Young Cherokees because while I have always known who I am, I lacked role models deeply connected to our culture. Growing up, no one in my family had extensive knowledge of our language or cultural values. As I began learning about what it means to be Cherokee, our ancestral language, and our traditions, I realized I wanted to provide the guidance and inspiration missing from my upbringing. As a teacher, sharing knowledge brings me immense joy, and it is even more fulfilling to integrate our language and traditions into my teaching.
